Representative Projects (Air Quality)

·         Air emissions compliance study and permitting for a manufacturer of plastic shopping bags located in New Jersey (Years 1996-2000).  Process units: printing presses.  Emissions of concern: volatile organic compounds (VOCs).  Control technology: carbon adsorption filter packs and solvent recovery by distillation.

·         Air emissions statement for a manufacturer of plastic packaging products located in New Jersey (Year 2000).  Prepared emissions statement using NJDEP’s RADIUS software program.  Process units: printing presses, dryers (natural gas fired), and heat seal machines.  Emissions of concern: VOCs, oxides of nitrogen (NOx or NOx), sulfur dioxide (SO2 or SO2), carbon monoxide (CO), lead (Pb), total suspended particulate matter (TSP), and respirable particulate matter (PM10 or PM-10 or PM10).  Control technology: Thermal destruction/catalytic oxidation (natural gas fired) with energy recovery.

·         Air permitting for new and replacement boilers in the heating plant of a college campus located in New York (Years 1998-1999).  Process units: boilers (24 to 42 mmBtu/hr units), dual fired (natural gas and No. fuel oil).  Emissions of concern:  NOx (NOx), SO2 (SO2), CO, TSP, and PM10 (PM-10, PM10).  Control technology: Not applicable.

·         Developed an air quality (carbon monoxide) screening guideline for New York City Environmental Quality Review (CEQR).  Project involved the following tasks: traffic modeling using Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) software, mobile source emissions modeling for CO using DECMOB81 software, and air dispersion modeling for CO using CAL3QHCR software with five years of meteorological data (Years 1997-1998).
